I have to get this out! I have been holding this confession in for weeks, and I feel that it is finally time to come clean.
I hate spamming authors.
I get emails from authors sending me the most generic non-sincere emails and it fuels my anger! Some will say, “Dear, Blogger” others won’t even have an introduction!
Really? I review books and work with authors to not only help advertise their work but to build relationships. I take my personal time, away from family, work, and free time to try and keep up with this. I don’t expect much. Is it too much to ask that you address me by my name rather than reviewer or blogger?
As a reviewer, I will only accept the books that I either find very interesting or where the author has been friendly. First impressions are key. If I accept a book to review from an indie-author who has given me a generic email, I am not as excited to help advertise. Instead, I feel furious that I have to help someone who wouldn’t give me the time of day rather that review a book from another author who took the time to look at my blog, learn my name, etc…
I’ve said it hundreds of times and I will say it again, this is a community. Sharing is a big part of it.
Well, that is my ranty-confession…
Until Next Time,
Paige

I think it’s better to be a person than being an ‘author’ who sends the same emails to everyone!
I’d say you were entitled to the outburst 😀

Thanks so much Paige, as a new author – I am so grateful for you and your willingness to review books. I think sometimes people just get overwhelmed and yes, even desperate, and they randomly spam, but it only takes a few minutes to look at each boggler’s site and know if your book is a good fit – and using common courtesy when addressing an email should be obvious, unfortunately common courtesy just isn’t that common anymore.

*GULP!* I tentatively say you are totally entitled to feel angry, though I am both a victim and perpetrator of said crimes… Mainly the former you’ll be happy to know! Don’t feel bad about it, aside from adding to the gazillions of other notifications I receive and have to sort on a daily basis I also attempt at getting some blogging achieved. I would love to have the time to reply to everybody, but frankly, if I did, I would never get anything done, and that is perhaps why, on occasion through frustration at seeing the clock ticking away, I have sent out non-personal emails to bloggers that I genuinely do want to form a relationship with! That aside, I now feel intensely guilty as I have just come across your very nice email, for which I thank you, and yes… in future I would love to work with you… Here is my latest blog post and I have 6 rather interesting and high profile interviews in the making. Hope you enjoy. If I am not allowed to post a link, just remove it I won’t be offended. 🙂 http://simonduringer.com/opinions/digging-holes-and-making-waves/

Sorry to hear about that, Paige. That is frustrating and something I avoid. It’s impersonal, especially seeing all the other email addresses up top.
