Summary from GoodReads

Jude and Nina are the epitome of that whole raw, unflinching love thing that most people are jealous of. That is, until Jude dies and wakes up in The Waiting Room, surrounded by other souls who are all waiting to pass over into their next life. But unlike those souls, Jude’s name is never called by the mysterious “receptionist”. He waits, watching Nina out of giant windows. He’s waiting for her. What is this place? How long will he wait? And what will happen when and if Nina does join him? The Waiting Room is a story of not just love, but of faith, predestination, and philosophy, friendship and self-actualization, of waiting.

YAY! My first five star review! This book was not at all how I was expecting it to be- dull, heavily religious, and a time-consuming read.

So what is the Waiting Room you might ask? It is a place where souls come after they pass to wait before they are sent off to their next life. It is a place known as a step in the resurrection process. It is a place where souls can remember all their past and future lives. It is a place that is not heaven nor hell. It is a place of love and compassion in the eyes of Jude and Nina. But most of all, it is a place for waiting.

Lets talk about why you SHOULD go and read this amazing debut novel by Alysha Kaye right now!

Firstly, the plot is so fantabulous… I mean… who wouldn’t want to read about seemingly infinite resurrections and how the power of love was able to defy the all the standards of a vague and mysterious process??? (Yes.. I know what you’re thinking “Doesn’t that sound a bit like ‘Made in Heaven’?” [A fantastic movie for those of you who haven’t seen it] but it is different, trust me!)

Secondly, I personally loved going on this adventure with Jude and Nina and to see them develop throughout the story as a couple was lovely.

Thirdly, there is a character in this book that I don’t think anyone could possibly go another day in their life without reading about. Her name is Ruth. Enough said.

Lastly, this book gives such an original take on what happens after life and death, it goes through questions that we as human-beings ask ourselves daily, it consistently asks, “Why?”. Although it is obviously a book of fiction, it is  so carefully scripted that I found myself truly thinking about all of the questions raised. This aspect alone adds so much more value to this book and in the end makes a truly interesting read.
